MORTON, Ill. (25 News) – Rushing floodwaters turned a quiet residential creek into a raging river on Polk Street Wednesday, trapping vehicles and forcing anxious residents to watch the rising waters in fear.

The storm prompted a ton of emails to the 25 News from concerned viewers across the area, reporting severe street flooding.

On Polk Street, residents watched as a local creek rapidly expanded. Within an hour, the overflowing channel swallowed the roadway, turning the residential block into a fast-moving waterway.

One resident who spoke with 25 News described her reaction as the flash flood invaded her neighborhood, saying she had never seen anything like it.

On Ohio Street, there was still water in the road around 10pm Monday night, but the street was ultimately passable for cars.

As the rain subsided, the Village of Morton began assessing the damage left behind by the storm.
