PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – The Peoria City Council has voted unanimously to approve a right-of-way agreement to hand over a section of Bond Street to O’Brien Steel.
Tuesday night’s decision dates back to 2011 when the city first created a redevelopment agreement with O’Brien. They agreed at that time to vacate the property they discussed in this meeting.
In 2024, city officials looked for evidence the property had been vacated, but they couldn’t find any. At the council meeting, they took the final step to adopt an ordinance officially allowing O’Brien to take over the property.
“We agreed to vacate the street in 2011, by adopting the ordinance we’re just perfecting that issue,” said City Attorney Patrick Hayes. “Nobody can figure out who actually owns this property underneath this easement on Bond Street.”
