PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria to Memphis St. Jude Ride will take off Thursday morning with 145 riders.
Ride Coordinator Eric Wilson says the main goal is to raise money for the kids, doctors and families of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“Just being able to do something that’s bigger than all of us. And, doing it with a group of people that truly really care about St. Jude, and the kids, and helping them get better,” Wilson says.
This is the ride’s 20th year. Wilson has been a part of 19 of those.
He is inviting everyone to the St. Jude Rides sendoff at Walters Brothers Harley-Davidson at 7 a.m. They’ll travel 465 miles, the same route the St. Jude Memphis to Peoria Run takes, but in reverse.
Each rider is responsible for raising at least $1,000 to participate, and $1,500 if they have a passenger.
Peoria’s riders will stay overnight Thursday in Dyersburg, Tennessee, where they’ll meet up with other St. Jude Rides Friday morning.
After arriving in Memphis, and touring the campus, the riders will present a check to St. Jude.
Last year, St. Jude Rides raised $1.4 million. They hope to match that amount, or surpass it this year, Wilson says.
