MORTON, Ill. – Morton’s 60th Pumpkin Festival kicks into high gear on Wednesday.

But, on Tuesday night they held the annual pumpkin weigh-off, with the biggest pumpkin weighing over a thousand pounds.

The Morton Chamber’s Kim Litwiller says you can get all of your favorite pumpkin “eats” starting Wednesday at 4 p.m.

“Pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin chili, pumpkin donuts, pumpkin cupcakes. All of these things are being prepared and brought in today (Wednesday),” Litwiller says.

The Pumpkin Store, Grill Tent, Sweet Shop and the Carnival Midway open at 4:00. Many pumpkin favorites will also be available at the Pumpkin Drive-Thru on Detroit Avenue starting Thursday at 6 a.m.

Saturday’s the big day, beginning with the annual Pumpkin Pancake Breakfast ahead of the Pumpkin Festival Parade.

“From 6-10:30 a.m., or while supplies last. We have folks lining up rather early, to get in line for their pumpkin pancakes. We also have our Pumpkin Classic Race on Saturday morning, so a lot of families come for the race, go have pancakes, and stay for the parade (at 10:30),” Litwiller says.

She says people are already setting up chairs for Saturday’s parade, but residents are used to that.
