PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria riverfront will transform into a vibrant celebration of creativity this weekend as the 64th annual Fine Art Fair returns, bringing in 107 juried artists.
Peoria Art Guild Executive Director Megan Scott describes the event to WMBD’s “Greg and Dan Show” like this…”I would say it feels very much like an art festival. There’s music, there’s art, there’s activities for kids.”
Snagging a spot on the riverfront is no small feat. Scott says artists must go through a competitive jury process just to be accepted into the show.
“There are five jurors. They score each work, each photo of the artist’s work in their beat, with a score of 1 to 5. We tally the scores, and the top scorers are automatically accepted, followed by a waiting list,” Scott says.
This year’s official fair poster features artwork titled “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party” by local artist Merrell Hickey, whose design “A Ride For Me And My Friends” was also selected for the fair’s community mural. Hickey first got involved with the Art Guild as a volunteer shortly after moving to Peoria, a step that launched her journey to becoming an award-winning artist.
The fair runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $10, while children 12 and under and Art Guild members receive free admission. Art Guild members also get one hour of early entry each day.
