PEORIA (25News Now) – Thursday, the Peoria County Board approved intergovernmental agreements that allow the county’s Juvenile Detention Center to provide space to Tazewell and Macon County detainees.

Peoria County already gives Tazewell detainees space on an as-needed basis, and guarantees beds for Macon County detainees. The latest agreement says Peoria County will reserve five beds for Macon County, and Macon will pay regardless if they’re used. Macon County’s Bivens Whitten Juvenile Detention Center closed in 2001.

The other counties will pay Peoria $300 each day for the beds’ use. The Peoria Detention Center has 63 beds. Peoria County has received $545,000 annually over the past three years from providing space for other counties.
