PEORIA, Ill. (25News Now) – The Peoria area is getting ready to fly dozens of veterans to Washington, D.C. to tour the monuments made in their honor.
On Oct. 20, veterans will be flown out and greeted by the public, giving them the opportunity to reflect on their service and receive recognition.
This will be Peoria’s fourth of five honor flight of 2026, done to show support for veterans.
“We have so many deserving veterans that need to go on their flight. They need their day of recognition because they deserve it. And then that welcome home that they get when they come back to Peoria to know that the community has their back and love them and thank them, it’s so worth it. Creates so much healing that a lot of them don’t even know they needed,” said Yvonne Rosenbohm, Greater Peoria Honor Flight.
Those wanting to support the veterans are encouraged to come to General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport on Oct. 20 at 9:30 p.m. to welcome home Peoria’s heroes.
