WASHINGTON, D.C. (25News Now) -After severe storms in August, and a FEMA aid denial, U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Dunlap) is asking federal officials to reconsider.

LaHood wrote to President Trump and FEMA Director Cameron Hamilton on Friday. The letter said in part that a reversal of their decision would align with FEMA’s threshold for disaster assistance.

“McLean County is among the counties that met FEMA’s local damage threshold, underscoring the direct and significant impact on communities I represent. I respectfully encourage FEMA to give renewed consideration to the concentration of damage in particularly hard-hit communities, and any additional assessments that may help establish the full extent of the damage.” LaHood wrote.

He said local officials in McLean County reported approximately $42.5 million in damage.

Besides McLean, Illinois asked for a presidential major disaster declaration for Tazewell, Fulton, Ford, Champaign, Vermillion, Will, and Cook counties.

LaHood went on to write that the circumstances are putting a heavy burden on local and state agencies, which makes a “compelling” case for federal support.
