PEORIA, Ill. – After two months of renovations, the Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum is ready to welcome families back with new exhibits and expanded hands-on learning opportunities.
The museum, located in Glen Oak Park, will officially reopen to the public Wednesday, November 4, at 9 a.m.
The PlayHouse closed portions of its museum during September and October to renovate existing spaces and introduce new experiences designed to encourage creativity, imagination and learning through play.
Among the additions is Parkside Market, a kid-sized grocery store where children can shop, stock shelves and operate a checkout counter while developing problem-solving, cooperation and early math skills.
Another new exhibit, Glen Oak Grill, gives children the opportunity to run a pretend diner, take orders, prepare meals and serve customers while practicing communication and teamwork.
The museum is also introducing an expanded Imagination Station, offering additional space for children to design, build and experiment.
Building on the museum’s popular Real Tools experience, the new maker space features several interactive activities, including an electrical circuit exhibit, an earthquake shake table, a kid-sized claw machine and Rigamajig building components.
In addition to the new exhibits, visitors will notice improvements to the museum’s Farm exhibit and Water Table area.
Popular attractions including Motion Commotion, Tot Town and Fossils Rock will also remain available.
The Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum officially reopens Wednesday at 9 a.m. in Glen Oak Park.
