SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A former federal and Springfield-area prosecutor is the latest candidate for Illinois Secretary of State.
John Milhiser describes himself in a news release as having a “commitment to justice and public service” describing himself as both a successful federal and Sangamon County prosecutor.
He says he’s not a career politician despite having run for office before, but wants to help “restore faith in state government and our leaders,” claiming the “culture of corruption” still exists in Springfield.
“It is a privilege to run for this office and continue to fight to make our state a better place to live,” said Milhiser, in a news release. “I am running because we can do better in Illinois. We can have good government. We can have safe communities, and we can rebuild trust in our leaders.”
Milhiser is the second Republican to launch a campaign for the office, after Bloomington-area State Representative Dan Brady.
There are also four Democrats running for the chance to replace incumbent Jesse White, who’s not seeking another term, including former Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias.
