UPDATE: 1:24 p.m.
PEORIA, Ill. — A boil order remains in effect for roughly 3,000 Illinois American Water customers in Bartonville and Peoria, however the utility announced Wednesday afternoon it had repaired an earlier water main break.
The break happened Wednesday morning when a 16-inch main bust near I-474 in Bartonville, leading to a drop in water pressure.
According to an email update from ILAW, all repairs are completed and water service is now restored, however required bacteriological sampling will mean the current boil order stays in place for at least another 16 to 24 hours.
The note from ILAW Communications Manager Karen Cotton said water is still okay to use for bathing, washing, and other common uses, without boiling.
The utility expects to life the boil order by sometime Thursday.

PEORIA, Ill. — A boil order has been issued for roughly 3,000 Illinois American Water customers in Bartonville and Peoria.
The boil order was issued after a 16-inch water main break occurred Wednesday morning near I-474 in Bartonville, leading to a drop in water pressure.
In accordance with EPA regulations, a boil order is issued when water pressure drops below 20 pounds per square inch in any part of a community’s distribution system.
Illinois American Water customers affected by the order are being told to boil their water for five minutes before using it for drinking or cooking.
The utility said the water is okay to use for bathing, washing, and other common uses, without boiling.
“Our team is working on repairs to the water main break. We are working as quickly and as safely as possible,” said Eric Larson, senior operations manager for Illinois American Water’s Western Division.
Limestone Community High School dismissed its students at 9 a.m. Wednesday as a result of the water main break.
Affected customers will be notified when the boil order is lifted.
