PEORIA, Ill. –Funeral arrangements are being released for a Knox County deputy killed in the line of duty late last week.
An outpouring of condolences and support has continued since news of 34-year-old deputy Nick Weist’s death on Friday.
Illinois State Police have said he was laying out spike strips to try and stop a runaway alleged crime suspect when that suspect hit deputy Weist with this car along U.S. 150 out north of Galesburg.
That suspect, now charged with two counts of murder, is identified as 22-year-old Daylon K. Richardson of Granite City, Illinois.
A memorial service is now scheduled for Saturday and it will be open to the public.
It will be at Galesburg High School on West Fremont Street in Galesburg and is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
According to an obituary published on the Dennison Funeral Homes website, Weist leaves behind a wife and two young children.
