SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A Peoria woman’s attempt to have her sentence reduced in a 20-year-old murder case, despite a plea deal, has been turned down by the Illinois Supreme Court.
The state’s high court filed a ruling Thursday saying now-52-year-old Angela Wells essentially couldn’t contest a state motion to dismiss her request, because of that plea deal.
Wells was sentenced to 40 years in prison on a murder charge as part of a plea deal which required her to testify against her now-52-year-old husband Ronald, who is serving a life sentence in the case.
More than sixteen years later, Angela Wells asked for the reduction in sentence.
The two killed Jamie Weyrick after a botched robbery attempt in May of 2001, put his body in a freezer until he died, and then buried the body under an above-ground swimming pool.
