PEORIA, Ill. – Gas prices in the Peoria/Pekin metro area are currently $4.26 a gallon, according to both GasBuddy and AAA Illinois.
GasBuddy’s data shows local prices have surged 23.4 cents a gallon in the last week. Prices are 91 cents higher than a month ago and 88 cents higher than a year ago.
GasBuddy says the cheapest gas in Peoria on Sunday was $4.09 a gallon, while the most expensive gas was $4.29. The state of Illinois saw prices ranging from $3.37 to $5.49, with AAA Illinois reporting the state average price at $4.29.
Nationally, gas prices have also risen 11.8 cents a gallon in the last week. GasBuddy reports the national average at $4.06, while AAA Illinois reports a slightly higher national price of $4.11 a gallon.
National prices are up 65.1 cents a gallon from a month ago and 85 cents higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, warns that prices are poised for another jump this week.
“Gasoline prices are poised for another jolt this week, with many inland states—including the Plains, Great Lakes, and parts of the Rockies— likely to see sharp increases as last week’s surge in wholesale costs has yet to be fully passed through to consumers,” De Haan said. “As a result, the national average could rise by double digits, potentially reaching the $4.20 to $4.35 per gallon range in the days ahead. Recent escalations between the U.S. and Iran have further intensified concerns about prolonged disruptions to global oil flows, keeping markets on edge. At this point, the trajectory of fuel prices remains highly uncertain and is largely contingent on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz— until that occurs, the risk of further increases remains firmly in place.”
