PEORIA, Ill. – Another Choose Greater Peoria Red, White and Boom, presented by I-3 Broadband is in the books.

Peoria Mayor Rita Ali told WMBD Radio that around 200,000 people came to celebrate America’s 250th birthday on the Peoria and East Peoria riverfronts.

“That’s extremely special, something like that doesn’t come often. We waited 250 years for this. It’s about our freedom, our independence, and our coming together in downtown Peoria and East Peoria, in a unified manner to celebrate,” Ali said.

Despite some strong storms that moved through downtown Peoria Saturday afternoon, everything for Red, White and Boom went off without a hitch.

Abby Carroll from Brimfield was one of those who attended the show, grabbing a favored spot in the rear of Riverfront Park.

What Carroll enjoyed the most about Red, White, and BOOM! is the experience.

“Seeing all the people, and then you get an amazing show, so it’s just so much fun to be down here every year,” Carroll said.

Carroll says she also enjoys the colors of the fireworks in the sky.

For Nate Carlile of Lincoln, Red, White, and BOOM! is a family affair.  He and his group made the drive up north I-155 to attend the show.

Carlile says the drive Peoria is worth is each year because he says the BOOM! is the best fireworks show in the state.

“The fireworks, the food, the people,” Carlile said.

Carlile adds that he enjoys the show being off the water on the riverfront.
