EAST PEORIA, Ill. – East Peoria Mayor John Kahl is officially running for re-election.

After seven years in office, Kahl says he’s looking to build on the work his administration has already started.

On Facebook Kahl pointed to major infrastructure upgrades over the last few years—like fixing residential streets, updating wastewater plants, and replacing sewer mains—as evidence of his focus on keeping the city running efficiently.

Kahl also highlighted the city’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and his commitment to public safety as key parts of his record.

He says he’s running again because he believes there is more work to be done and he wants to keep that momentum going for East Peoria families and businesses.

Kahl’s full statement is attached:

Serving as the Mayor of East Peoria has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Seven years ago, we came into this office with a common sense approach to building a stronger, safer and more vibrant community while being fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars. By working together in a collaborative effort, we have delivered results.

A lot has been accomplished. We led our community through unprecedented times during COVID with strength and resilience. We made historic investments in our local infrastructure, including improvements to our residential streets, upgrades to our wastewater treatment plants, replacement of our water and sewer mains, modernizing several of our existing facilities, and installing new software systems, and many improvements in public safety. We brought smart economic development, supported all members of our thriving and diverse business community and expanded opportunities for our families. And since day one, we have kept our community safe.

Real leadership is being committed to the job, working hard and delivering results. There is more work ahead of us. That is why I am announcing my run for re-election. I would be honored to continue to serve the good people of East Peoria. Thank you for your continued trust and support.
