PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria’s Friendship House now has a big truck to call its own.

On Wednesday, the organization accepted a donation from Midwest Communications of a box truck that was used for country music station 104.9 the Wolf.

Wolf personalities Mike Stechman and John Young were present for the transfer of the keys to Friendship House.

Friendship House President and CEO Marcellus Sommerville says the donation will provide an “immediate impact.”

“When you’re talking about food distribution at the levels that we’ve experienced over the last eight months, it helps us tremendously,” Sommerville said.  “So we’ll be able to pick up without the process of what we’ve been doing as far as renting U-Hauls and things of that nature.”

Sommerville says the truck can also be used for larger donated items the organization receives, such as furniture.

He says the money that will be freed up from not renting U-Hauls can go towards food purchases, and scholarship opportunities for children.
