PEORIA, Ill. – Former Peoria City Councilman Eric Turner has passed away.
City officials paid tribute to the late Councilman on their social media pages, saying he dedicated himself to serving the people in our community with wisdom, integrity, honesty, and a deep commitment to the people and neighborhoods of Peoria.
Before running for mayor, Jim Ardis tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” he spent six years on the Horseshoe sitting next to Turner.
“He was engaging. We were both Spalding alumni, so we had the Spalding connection going on with Billy Spears and Bob Manning, and the rest of us that graduated from Spalding. But, he was just a good person.” Ardis says.
With 24 years on the Council, Turner made history in 2019 as Peoria’s longest-serving member of the City Council, serving alongside four mayors and nine city managers.
Ardis says Turner rose to success from very humble beginnings.
“He worked hard. Went to school, got his degree, got his advanced degree. He went to Caterpillar, then the rest of the story. He loved this community, he gave a good chunk of his life to try and make the community better,” Ardis says.
Eric Turner was 79 years old.
