PEORIA, Ill. – If you’re hitting the road this Labor Day Weekend, expect some company.
Illinois State Police and local police are ramping up patrols through the holiday weekend.
Trooper Jayme Buford says they’re out watching for the “Fatal Four” as part of the “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaigns.
“Make sure you’re buckling your seatbelt every trip, every time. Everybody in the car needs to be in a seatbelt or children need to be in a booster seat or car seat, depending on their age and size,” Buford says.
The extra patrols will be out there to make sure everyone follows the rules and gets home safe.
“We’ll be looking for anyone driving under the influence, whether that’s drugs or alcohol. Speeding is another thing that we’re looking for…distracted driving and not wearing that seatbelt,” Buford says.
So, buckle up and stay sober—if you’re going to celebrate the holiday with drinks, get a designated driver, a taxi, or use a ride share.
It’s all part of the “It’s Not a Game” safety initiative, which reminds everyone that while patrols are out in full force, the best way to stay safe is to make the right choice behind the wheel.
