PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – One person was arrested after reportedly crashing their vehicle Monday morning on the Rock Island Trail following dangerous driving.
The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office says 39-year-old Kenneth Threatt, who also goes by Kenneth Johnson, was arrested for Criminal Damage to State-Supported Property and multiple felony traffic offenses.
The incident started when Peoria Police, Peoria Fire, and AMT responded to Knoxville and Timber Lane at around 6:45 A.M. to a male found in the roadway. The male had reportedly jumped out of Threatt’s vehicle, due to the speed in which it was traveling. The male suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Threatt was then found at around 7:25 A.M. by a Peoria County deputy on Illinois Route 91 north of Dunlap. Threatt was allegedly driving alongside the deputy while southbound, operating the vehicle in the opposing lane of traffic.
The deputy had reportedly initiated a traffic stop, but Threatt accelerated and drove into oncoming traffic. The pursuit was stopped for public safety reasons, due to the amount of school-related traffic in the area.
Threatt was then spotted on the roundabout near Radnor Road and drove to the dead end before crashing on the Rock Island Trial.
Threatt was arrested at 8:00 A.M., and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. He will be booked in the county jail after his release from the hospital. The sheriff’s office says Threatt was released from prison three days prior, and is currently on parole.
Sheriff Chris Watkins reacted to the crash, saying it was “the worst possible time for an unprovoked incident like this.” He continued to say Threatt’s actions put countless people at risk, and it was “fortunate” no one was seriously injured.
