PEORIA (25News Now) – New pharmaceutical tariffs could drive up the cost of some imported medications, and a local pharmacist is weighing in on what that could mean for patients.

The new tariffs include a 100% tax on certain imported patented drugs.

Experts warn smaller drugmakers could struggle with the added costs, potentially limiting medication options and increasing prices.

Corey Dolan, owner and lead pharmacist at Preckshot Compounding Pharmacy, says it’s too early to know the full impact.

“So the supply chain is global. So these active pharmaceutical ingredients are coming from overseas. So we are actively always monitoring the different prices and the availability of the different medications,” Dolan said.

Dolan says his pharmacy works with multiple suppliers to keep costs down, but patients without alternative treatments could face greater challenges.

“My biggest concern is actually the patients skipping medications or skipping doses on their own due to affordability. So I want them to stay on their medication therapy, stay adherent,” Dolan said.

Dolan says patients who are concerned about medication costs or availability should talk with their local pharmacist about possible alternatives.
