PEORIA, Ill. – No one was injured after a kitchen fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damage to a Peoria home Thursday afternoon.
The Peoria Fire Department was called to a home in the 1900 block of North Milton Court around 3:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the one-story residence.
The department says a stove had caught fire, with flames spreading to nearby cabinets and the wall above it. Firefighters kept the flames from spreading farther into the home, although the rest of the residence sustained smoke damage.
One adult was inside when the fire started and made it out before firefighters arrived. Crews searched the home and confirmed no one else was inside.
The fire was under control within about 10 minutes.
Investigators determined the fire was accidental. No firefighters or residents were injured.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist two adults with temporary housing.
