UPDATE – 3:50 PM:

PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man accused of backing into a police squad car before fleeing from officers will remain in custody while his case is pending.

Prosecutors say 37-year-old Jeffrey R. Kingsley is charged with aggravated battery of a peace officer, aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude police and criminal damage to government-supported property. A judge ordered Kingsley to remain detained following arguments from prosecutors.

According to the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office, Peoria Police initially attempted to stop Kingsley’s vehicle after officers allegedly saw it traveling about 70 miles per hour in a 30-mile-per-hour zone.

Prosecutors say Kingsley stopped in the roadway with a squad car behind him. As an officer approached, Kingsley allegedly put his vehicle in reverse, struck the squad car and drove away.

Police briefly followed the vehicle before ending the pursuit. Prosecutors say officers saw Kingsley disregard several traffic lights and continue at a high rate of speed before the pursuit ended.

Peoria Police previously said two officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. The State’s Attorney’s Office says one officer suffered minor injuries and soreness, and the squad car was damaged.

Chillicothe Police later located Kingsley and arrested him.

The investigation remains ongoing.
