EAST PEORIA, Ill. – East Peoria Police will increase traffic enforcement around Halloween as part of a statewide effort targeting impaired driving.

The department says the enforcement period will run from Oct. 23 through Nov. 3, with officers focusing on drivers under the influence of alcohol, cannabis or other drugs. Police will also be watching for seat belt violations.

Police are encouraging people celebrating Halloween to plan for a sober ride before going out, whether through a designated driver, rideshare service or a sober friend or family member.

The increased enforcement is part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” campaigns.

The effort is funded through federal highway safety grants administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and is being conducted alongside the Illinois State Police and other law enforcement agencies across the state.
