PEORIA (25News Now) – A Peoria man accused in the killing a 20-year-old woman and their 2-year-old son has been released from the hospital and is now in the Peoria County Jail.

Jeremiah Duncan was transferred earlier Friday from the burn unit at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford where he’s been since Sept. 25, according to Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins.

On Sept. 25, deputies were called to a vehicle fire in the 3500 block of Yorkshire Drive. When that fire was extinguished, first responders discovered 2-year-old KJ Duncan-Wood, according to investigators. The child died from severe smoke inhalation, according to the Peoria County Coroner’s Office.

The boy’s mother, 20-year-old Heaven Wood, was found with gunshot wounds at a nearby home. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Duncan was arrested later that day.
