PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms as a convicted felon.
Quincy Jones, 36, was sentenced Wednesday, Nov. 4, to 42 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, on each of two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The prison sentences will run concurrently.
According to federal court documents, Jones sold a Smith & Wesson .38-caliber revolver to another individual for $450 in June 2025.
In October 2025, Jones sold two additional firearms — a Glock 43 pistol for $600 and a Taurus pistol for $800.
Federal prosecutors said the Glock had been stolen in Pekin and contained six rounds of ammunition. The Taurus had an extended magazine containing 21 rounds.
Jones also told the buyer he planned to travel to Mississippi to obtain additional rifles and pistols.
A federal grand jury indicted Jones in March 2026. He pleaded guilty in August and has remained in federal custody since his arrest in March.
During sentencing, U.S. Senior District Judge Michael Mihm described Jones as business-like and efficient in his firearm sales.
“How could they not have ended up in the wrong hands?” Mihm said, emphasizing the seriousness of the offenses.
The judge also cited Jones’ criminal history, which includes previous firearm and drug convictions.
Each count carried a maximum possible sentence of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Darilynn Knauss prosecuted the case.
