PEORIA, Ill. – Fire caused extensive damage to a Peoria home Sunday night, displacing two residents.
Fire Battalion Chief Steve Rada says damages are estimated at $250,000.
Crews were called to the home on W. Millbrook Court around 5 p.m. One of the residents told them the fire started while he was cooking with a smoker on the back deck.
The fire spread into the home and the attic. Crews had to cut a hole in the roof to stop the fire from spreading into other rooms.
The home suffered significant water and smoke damage. No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross was called in to help the residents with temporary housing.
Peoria Fire says the cause of the fire was accidental, but they are still investigating.
