PEORIA,Ill. (25 News) – A downtown Peoria restaurant is a step closer to getting its liquor license after more than a year of requests to city leaders.
According to 25 News, Pop-Up Chicken Shop in the Warehouse District had its application site approved Monday by the Peoria Liquor Commission, on a 3-0 vote.
It is the third time Pop Up Chicken has asked for site approval since mid-2024. In the past, Mayor Rita Ali, who also serves as the city’s liquor commissioner, said she was hesitant to give a recommendation for the restaurant.
In a Facebook post, Pop Up Chicken’s owner said he understands that he and Ali had their differences in the past, but that he appreciates the chance to expand the business by serving liquor.
“I truly would love the opportunity to continue to stretch my hospitality ladder in Peoria,” he said. “I would love to have this address in the Warehouse District running at 100%, and we are very close. Either way, I shall respect any decision the city makes.”
The restaurant’s owner must now submit a liquor license application and be approved by the city.
