CENTRAL ILLINOIS – The National Weather Service in Lincoln has confirmed four Central Illinois tornadoes occurred Tuesday night.
A tornado touched down briefly Tuesday afternoon just north of Pontiac, though the NWS did not assign a EF rating for it.
A EF0 (zero) was confirmed Tuesday night around 8 p.m. in Lacon-Varna, with winds peaking at 80 mph. It was on the ground for just under 20 minutes. It was confirmed by a barge operator on the Illinois River 3.5 miles NW of Lacon.
An EF1 tornado, with peak winds of 100 mph, was confirmed in the Havana-Topeka area at 11:52 p.m., lasting roughly six minutes. Damage included snapped tree trunks, power poles down and a horse barn that was partially destroyed, killing one horse.
An EF1 tornado was confirmed in Forest City-Green Valley at 12:06 a.m. Wednesday, with peak winds of 98 mph. Several irrigation pivots were overturned, tree branches were down and several power poles were snapped.
