PEORIA, Ill. – The end of Rik Edgar’s tenure leading the Peoria Civic Center is nearing its conclusion.

Edgar will cap his eight-year run leading the facility on June 20th.  He is stepping down to become the Executive Director of the Vibrant Arena in Moline.

Edgar joined WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show” on Friday to reflect on his time as head of the Civic Center.  He says the greatest achievements are not the shows that were put on, but the people he worked with.

“I saw a guy like Eric Yarbrough that had been here for years, and he got passed over, and I was like ‘This guy’s great,’” Edgar said.  “And watching someone who’s pushing 50 get revitalized, and now they’re a leader, that’s what I do.  I do people, more than I do events.”

Edgar says there was one performer that he wanted to book at the Civic Center, but never could get it finalized.  He says that’s Tori Amos, who Edgar confesses to being a big fan of.

The final performer at the Civic Center under Edgar’s leadership will be Lucy Darling on June 20th at the Prairie Home Alliance Theater.  Edgar says he was able to talk a promoter into bringing Darling, a TikTok viral star, to Peoria.
