PEORIA, Ill. – The results are in following last week’s traffic enforcement campaign in Peoria.

The enforcement detail focused its efforts on several high-traffic areas, including Sterling Avenue between Nebraska Avenue and the Interstate 74 overpass, the intersection of War Memorial Drive and Knoxville Avenue, and the intersection of Sterling Avenue and War Memorial Drive.

Peoria Police Chief Brad Dixon says officers conducted 54 traffic stops and issued 71 citations, the majority of which were for speeding.

Dixon says the enforcement campaigns aren’t just about issuing citations, but rather, they’re about keeping our community safe.

Dixon says officers want drivers to slow down, stay focused, and make safe choices when they get behind the wheel.

The Peoria Police Department will continue conducting traffic enforcement campaigns throughout the year in areas where traffic concerns have been identified.
