DALLAS, Tx. – If you’re planning to pack up the car for the Fourth of July weekend, you’d better be prepared for some sticker shock at the pump.
GasBuddy is out with its latest projection, and it’s not great news for your wallet. They’re forecasting a national average of $3.75 a gallon come Independence Day.
That puts this holiday weekend on track to be the second most expensive Fourth of July we’ve ever seen—second only to that record-breaking price we saw back in 2022.
That’s roughly 65 cents higher than where we were this time last year. We’re still seeing the fallout from that disruption in the Strait of Hormuz earlier this spring. Even though the recent framework agreement with Iran is helping oil prices settle a bit, the situation remains fragile.
Families are going to be shelling out hundreds of millions of dollars more for gas this holiday compared to last year… a direct hit to your vacation budget.
Before you hit the road, don’t just pull into the first station you see. Prices can vary drastically, especially if you’re crossing state lines. Check your apps, do some shopping around, and save that extra cash for the grill instead of the gas tank.
