PEORIA, Ill. – The two newest members of the Peoria Public Schools board officially began their terms on Wednesday.

Andres Diaz and Sarah Howard took their oaths of office after winning elections in March.

Both gave opening remarks after they were sworn-in.  Diaz gave his remarks in English and Spanish.  He also referenced his efforts to try and halt Wednesday’s meetings from occurring in a Peoria County courtroom over alleged Open Meetings Act violations.

“As you saw overnight, I’m here to fight for the families of District 150, and will continue that, as long as I serve you,” Diaz said.

Howard spoke about wanting the board to be more transparent with decision making and seeking community input.
