PEORIA, Ill. – A streak of relief at the gas pump appears to officially be over.

Peoria’s gas prices are climbing again. The average price of unleaded gas is sitting at $4.00 a gallon, up about six cents from last week, according to GasBuddy and AAA Illinois.

It’s a nationwide trend. For the first time in two months, national gas prices are on the rise. GasBuddy’s national price of unleaded gas is $3.82. AAA’s price is $3.87.

Analyst Patrick De Haan says the sudden spike stems from global instability. The ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran has collapsed. That’s pushed oil prices up, and we’re feeling the ripple effect at the pump. Add in ongoing attacks on Russian refineries, and it’s keeping supplies tight.

But, De Haan isn’t expecting a repeat of the massive price hikes we saw back in March and April.
