BARTONVILLE, Ill. (25News) – Bartonville has officially transitioned its fire chief position into a full-time, paid role.
A packed room at Village Hall gathered to congratulate Fire Chief Drew Zachman as he became Bartonville’s first salaried chief.
Zachman joined the Bartonville Fire Department in 2001, working his way from lieutenant to captain to assistant chief. He took over as chief in January following Michael Cheatham retirement.
The village has now made the chief position full time and paid, with an annual salary of $90,000.
“I’ve been a part of the Bartonville Fire Department for 24 years, and my plan is to just keep working with the members of the fire department and the community leaders and just keep moving the fire department forward for the best of the community,” Zachman said.
Supporters and fellow first responders packed the room to celebrate the appointment and congratulate Zachman on stepping into the department’s first paid leadership spot.
Zachman said his immediate focus is collaborating with village leaders and his crew to expand services across the community.
