PEORIA, Ill. – Arson is believed to be behind the cause of a fire to an uninhabitable Peoria home Thursday afternoon.

Peoria Fire says crews responded to the single-story building just after noon in the area of Albany and North Western, arriving to find heavy fire and smoke from a front window.

The fire was put out within 10 minutes and before it could spread to the rest of the building, although the building sustained smoke and water damage throughout.

The building was unoccupied at the time, as well as boarded up and listed as uninhabitable.  Accessibility was made difficult with debris cluttered throughout the residence.

Peoria Fire says a search confirmed no occupants in the residence, and there were no injuries.

An investigation determined the fire to be arson.  Code Enforcement responded and determined the building was uninhabitable.

The house will be demolished after an emergency demolition was submitted.
