BARTONVILLE, Ill. – A Peoria woman is facing numerous charges after allegedly crashing a truck and taking a Bartonville Police squad car.

Bartonville Police says officers responded to a truck crashing in the area of Madison and Monroe at around 5:45 P.M. on Thursday.

A female, later identified as 30-year-old Brittany Potter, was detained and placed in a squad car.  Potter reportedly told police that an individual was under the truck that had crashed.

While police were looking for the individual under the truck, Potter had reportedly climbed through a cage partition in the squad car and fled the scene with it.  Police confirmed there was no one under the crashed truck.

The squad car was later found parked in the area of Birch and Cherry, with Potter reportedly walking near Garfield and Lawndale.  Potter then fled the scene into nearby woods after officers arrived on the scene.

Potter was eventually taken into custody by Peoria Police.  She had ended up in Peoria after officers tracked her location to Cherry St., where two residents not aware of the situation gave her a ride into Peoria.

Potter was then taken to Bartonville for questioning by police, then arrested and taken to the Peoria County Jail.

Potter is charged with Motor Vehicle Theft, Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle, Obstructing Justice, Theft, Driving While License Suspended, and eight active arrest warrants.
