PEORIA, Ill. – The cost of filling up the car at Peoria gas pumps is getting a little bit cheaper.
GasBuddy reports an average of $4.27/g for a gallon of unleaded on Monday, down 8.3 cents in the past week. The average is 28.1 cents higher than one month ago, and 96.7 cents higher than one year ago.
AAA reported similar numbers on Monday for the Peoria-Pekin metro area, reporting an average of $4.28/g. Their average is 5.4 cents cheaper than one week ago.
GasBuddy reports the cheapest price reported on Sunday in the Peoria area was $4.02/g, with the highest at $4.49/g.
The Illinois average reported by GasBuddy on Monday was $4.20/g, down 11.7 cents in the past week.
GasBuddy head of petroleum analysis Patrick De Haan believes gas prices could be on a rollercoaster for a while.
“Iran is pushing back against a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and oil prices edged modestly higher in Sunday night trading, signaling that the recent relief may not last. With the Strait remaining closed, upward pressure on fuel prices could return quickly, and if things don’t go well, the national average could climb to its highest level ever recorded this late in the calendar year. For now, enjoy the dip, but keep a close eye on how the Strait situation develops in the days ahead,” De Haan said.
