PEORIA, Ill. – After spending three and a half years as Commander of Illinois’ National Guard, Major General Dan McDonough retired last month.

If his name sounds familiar, it’s because he led Peoria’s 182nd Air Lift Wing for four years prior to that.

McDonough tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan Show” he’s now got a new assignment, as Director of Operations with the Greater Peoria Honor Flight.

“We coordinate with Arlington National Cemetery, all the monuments, all the museums, all the bus companies…all that kind of stuff. It’s quite the production,” McDonough says.

McDonough says his favorite part of the Greater Peoria Honor Flight is the welcome the veterans get on their return home to Peoria…after a long day in Washington, D.C.
