PEORIA, Ill. – A water main break on Oak Street closed down traffic on SW Jefferson Avenue and SW Adams Street in downtown Peoria late Thursday night. The pavement in front of Dozer Park also required repairs.

The water main break happened around 11 p.m. and a boil order, impacting 7 downtown customers, was issued by Illinois American Water.

The utility’s Anna Kubas said repairs were completed early Friday morning and water service was restored.

Impacted customers remain under a boil order. After clean up and road restoration is complete, the streets will reopen.

PEORIA, Ill. – Oak Street in downtown Peoria is blocked to traffic in both directions between SW Jefferson Avenue and SW Adams Street due to a water main break and pavement damage (in front of Dozer Park). 

Illinois American Water told 25 News the main break happened around 11 p.m. Thursday. Crews are wrapping up repairs that are expected to be completed late Friday morning.

A boil order issued overnight is expected to expire for the area around 10 a.m.

Drivers should be aware there may still be standing water on northbound Jefferson Avenue.
