PEORIA, Ill. – One teenager was arrested and two remain at-large after an armed hijacking early Tuesday morning.
Peoria Police says officers responded to the area of Springdale and Gift just after 2:15 A.M., where a victim stated three masked suspects approached him, one reportedly with a handgun.
The suspects forced him out of his vehicle, then fled the area. The victim was not injured.
FLOCK cameras detected the vehicle northbound on Prospect and Tripp in Peoria Heights, and officers there attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled. The vehicle was also spotted by Peoria Police, Peoria County Sheriff’s deputies, and Illinois State Police officers on Interstate 74.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop on State Route 90, though police did not specify where exactly on the interstate the stop occurred.
18-year-old Cole McCoy was taken into custody.
McCoy was arrested for Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking with a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Criminal Damage to Property, Mob Action, Reckless Driving, and numerous traffic violations. McCoy was taken to the Peoria County Jail.
