PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. (25 News) – A Peoria Heights man was arrested Monday night for allegedly kidnapping a baby from his and his girlfriend’s home.

Around 10 p.m. on June 8, Peoria Heights Police received a complaint from 25-year-old Shaun Montford’s girlfriend that he was intoxicated, took their baby, and left the house.

Police said the woman told officers that they had been having dinner with family members, and after they left, he began throwing things around their home, including a TV.

Police reported that they found Montford walking on East Paris Avenue with the child, where they confronted him, noting that he was noticeably drunk. Police said that they convinced Montford to return to the house and give the child to his girlfriend.

Before and after returning to the shared home, Montford was uncooperative with the police and was arrested. He is charged with kidnapping, endangering the health of a child, and resisting an officer.

The woman told police that she had an order of protection against Montford, but it had expired.

Officers reported that they contacted DCFS regarding the incident.
