MARSHALL COUNTY, Ill. – This is the 16th year for the Marshall County St. Jude satellite run.
Run Coordinator Mallory Lindstrom says they’ve increased the number of runners this year by two.
“We actually have our first two second-generation runners coming aboard this year. Two 16-year-old boys are joining us. Both of their moms are runners, so it’s kind of exciting to see a second generation shape up with us too,” Lindstrom says.
Lindstrom says as a parent, running for St. Jude is a way that she can give back.
“Because I was blessed to be surrounded by healthy kids…not everyone is that fortunate,” she says.
The Marshall County St. Jude runners will start their first leg of the run at 5 a.m. on Saturday, running 50 miles to Peoria…with 52 runners.
Lindstrom says several runners on her team are pharmacists who serve St. Jude patients who have their treatments at Children’s Hospital in Peoria.
The Marshall County runners make several stops on the way to Peoria, including a ceremony near the Lacon bridge.
The Marshall County Run has a goal of raising nearly $259,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital this year.
