PEORIA, Ill. –The Peoria Public Schools Board of Education is holding a special meeting Friday night to consider a huge increase in funding for a program aimed at increasing student achievement through behavioral support.
The ELITE program had received just over $30,000 from the school board to help run its 4-week program, aimed at providing tools to students transitioning into high school.
Program officials noted that amount was significantly lower than the $49,000 cost to run the program.
Friday’s meeting has the Board considering increasing that funding to $624,000-funds that would come from the Safe Schools Grant and the Education Fund.
Those funds would allow the program to expand its reach, serving 50 Peoria School Students at a time, on a rotating basis.
In addition, the district would provide 1 certified teacher to assist with the program, which would also be covered under the Safe School Grant.
Friday’s meeting is set for 6 p.m.
