CHICAGO, Ill. – Gov. JB Pritzker met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and other state leaders Thursday as efforts continue to keep the Chicago Bears in Illinois.

Pritzker’s office described the meeting as “productive” and said discussions focused on keeping the team in Illinois while protecting taxpayers.

The meeting also included Pat Ryan, Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, State Rep. Kam Buckner and State Sen. Bill Cunningham.

Pritzker’s office says it has remained in conversations with the Bears throughout the summer as the team weighs its options for a new stadium.

The Bears have spent years exploring potential stadium sites, including Arlington Heights and Chicago’s lakefront, while more recently pursuing a possible move across the state line to northwest Indiana.

Thursday’s statement did not announce an agreement or provide details about any potential proposal to keep the Bears in Illinois.

Pritzker’s full statement:

“The Governor’s Office has remained in conversation with the Bears about their plans in Illinois throughout the summer.

“Today, Governor Pritzker was grateful to meet in Illinois with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Pat Ryan, Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, Rep. Kam Buckner, and Sen. Bill Cunningham.

“The Governor and General Assembly leadership were glad to participate in a productive meeting focused on keeping the Bears in Illinois and protecting taxpayers.”
